Weekly Home Time

Time away from home is a given in this career. But despite having a full schedule, our goal is to get you home WEEKLY. And we do a great job of that. We offer some of the best home times in our industry.  On average, our OTR drivers miss eight weekends a year. Some weekends are a quick 34-hour restart. Some are longer than 50 hours. But we promise you this… we want your marriages and families to come first. So if something is going on at home that you need to be there for, we’ll get you there. 

Guaranteed Pay

Trucking is an unpredictable job. You can get held up at a shipper, your truck can break down, or the freight puzzle doesn’t work one week. No one knows what is going to happen from week to week. But we’ve got you covered. Our guaranteed weekly pay minimum is designed to give you peace-of-mind. We don’t want you to ever worry about when your next paycheck will be.

We want you to earn the most money possible as an OTR driver. That’s why all drivers go through and continue to receive support through our Driver Mentoring Program. This program coaches you on ways to refine safe driving habits, save fuel and make more money through our bonus program. We also bring you in once a year for a face-to-face meeting with your driver manager. These performance reviews give you a scheduled opportunity to check in with your driving coach and help us create a better success plan for you.

We offer one of the best pay programs for OTR drivers in the nation. In fact, the National Transportation Institute (NTI) designated Nussbaum’s entire pay package as “Top Paying.”

Starting Pay

  • Starting pay is based on your experience and domicile location.
  • Reach your full pay tier within 1-3 years.
  • Earn $60,000 to $68,000 in the first year.
  • Get guaranteed pay increases during your first 3 years! 

Earning Potential

Established Nussbaum drivers can earn $64,000-$73,000 per year. Drivers willing to run hard and excel in our bonus program can exceed $75,000 per  year. Thanks to our scheduled increases, you will reach full pay potential within 3 years.

Guaranteed Weekly Minimum

If you can predict one thing in trucking, it would be that nothing is predictable! So many variables can come up when you’re on the road – all of which can affect your bottom line. Our guaranteed weekly minimum program is in place so those weeks you were detained at a shipper, had a  truck breakdown, or got stuck in traffic will never affect your whether you get a paycheck. 

Full Disclosure: Your average weekly wages are safely higher than our guaranteed minimum. The minimum is simply meant to act as a safety next so you can avoid a dramatically lower paycheck on a poor driving week. 

Door-To-Door “Practical Miles” Pay

We believe your paid miles should reflect your real trip miles. “Practical Miles” are more accurate than “Short Miles” which are commonly used in the industry. Door-to-Door Practical Miles are approximately 4-5% higher than zip-to-zip Short Miles (the equivalent of $0.02/mile). What does that mean for you? You get paid for more miles each week and see more money in each paycheck!

More than the Mile Pay

When it comes to what we pay outside of mileage, Nussbaum brings it. Seriously, this is an area where we really shine. And you don’t have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get it. For example, take detention pay. Sometimes things don’t go as planned and you get detained at a carrier. With other carriers, you won’t see a dime until you’ve been there for two hours. Nussbaum starts paying detention after only one hour.

More scorecard points equal a larger bonus

A lot of companies have all-or-nothing bonus programs. But that’s not how Nussbaum rolls. With Driver Excelerator, we use scorecards that represent four distinct areas – safety, habits, operations and maintenance. Your bonus is determined by using objective data we can pull from your truck’s onboard PeopleNet computer system. Facts are facts, and if your scorecards indicate above-average performance, your bonus increases. Here’s what each area measures:

Our average bonus payout is around $0.03/mile extra. We spot new hires $0.02/mile. Top performers get up to $0.05 – $0.06 extra per mile.
