Nussbaum has partnered with Heartland Community College to form the Nussbaum Trucking Academy. As a CDL Instructor, you’re responsible to prepare students for the state-administered CDL exam and build a foundational understanding of truck driving. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Teach classroom and behind-the-wheel sessions with an emphasis on active learning, not just passive instruction.
  • Communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Provide feedback/critique of students’ performance, both in the classroom and behind the wheel.
  • Oversee students’ behavior and enforce rules/guidelines as needed.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on students’ progression in the course.
  • Communicate with colleagues and academy staff regarding student progress/needs.
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary reports/records as required by law and school policy.
  • Continue to develop truck driving knowledge and expertise; stay current with industry developments, regulations, teaching methods, etc.

Job Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Monday-Friday; 7:30am-4:30pm
  • You will also teach some evening courses: Monday-Friday; 5:00pm – 9:00pm. **max of 16 weeks per year. Extra pay included!

Job Requirements

  • Must understand DOT regulations
  • Substantial knowledge of equipment
  • Ability to maintain accurate records (ex: Grading and Attendance Sheets)
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Word, PowerPoint and checking emails

Experience & Qualifications

  • Class A CDL
  • At least two years of professional driving experience with a Class A CDL
  • Clean Driving Record – CSA and MVR

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, as well as an outside environment, that could include extreme hot and cold temperatures and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the office; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds
