Welcome! 👋 Thanks for stopping by. We’re excited that you’re considering Nussbaum as the next step in your career! To kick it off, here’s a little about who we are:
- We are Employee Owned. All of our people receive an ownership stake in the company via our ESOP.
- We are Purpose Driven. Our goal is to make a positive impact through each interaction. Therefore, character and integrity are essential.
- We openly celebrate faith & family. We believe God owns this business and we’re just stewards for a season.
- Innovation is our thing. We’re bent on continuous improvement and crushing expectations. We aren’t afraid to try something new.
- We enjoy being at work. The transportation industry is hectic, but we do our best to have fun along the way 😊.
Does that match what you’re looking for?
Driver Hiring Manager (DHM) Overview:
As a Driver Hiring Manager, you will take your place in a team whose primary focus is hiring professional truck drivers. Nussbaum DHMs handle the entire hire process – from the first phone call to the offering of the job.
In an industry known for doing the opposite, our team strives to create a positive hire and onboarding experience for each driver. We do this using a combination of transparency (we share the good, the bad, and the ugly) and hospitality – going the extra mile to help make drivers’ transitions to Nussbaum as smooth as possible.
Our sincere belief in Nussbaum, combined with a genuinely good offer, allows us to sell and attract drivers – even in competitive hiring markets. We work within certain, evergreen boundaries, yet as your experience as a DHM grows, so will your autonomy and freedom to make decisions based on your own discernment and ‘gut feel’.

Job Requirements
An ideal DHM possesses:
- A team player mentality – the more we pull together as a unit, the more each specific DHM will thrive.
- Personal values that align with Nussbaum’s – we are hiring for roughly 70% of Nussbaum’s workforce. An employee-owner mindset combined with belief in Nussbaum’s mission, vision, and values is paramount.
- Goal-oriented thinking – Recruiting works to hit multiple targets every month. A DHM should be driven to set and hit goals, consistently.
- Strong communication skills – with a focus on diplomacy and tact. Ability to guide and direct a conversation, without dominating.
- Discernment – quality of hire and Nussbaum-compatibility is our #1 priority. Much hiring is done without meeting candidates in person – accurate discernment from phone conversations, emails, background reports, etc. is needed.
- Tenacity – the ability to handle many phone calls, emails, and texts daily. At times, hard work will produce little fruit – an ideal DHM understands this and maintains the ability to keep putting in the effort, each day.
- Crucial Conversation skills – challenging conversations will happen, for a number of reasons. Candidates will say unfair and even unkind things at times. You will also face occasional internal scrutiny of hires. Navigating these situations with Nussbaum’s level of integrity and professionalism is a must.
- Time management and organizational skills – once established, you will be largely responsible for managing your time and creating your daily tasks. An effective DHM will be working with many candidates simultaneously (vs just one driver at a time) and can only do this if organized and making good use of time. Staying focused, consistently prioritizing tasks, and always being ready to take the next phone call (even when already busy) is key.
- Attention to detail – between examining background reports, verifying work history, the constant communication (with candidates, the Recruiting team, other Nussbaum depts, etc.) and much more, a DHM needs a keen eye for detail.
- Software adeptness – a knack for learning new software/programs is important, as you will have no previous experience using our Applicant Tracking System (the software we live in). Regarding communication programs, the Recruiting team primarily uses Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
