Nussbaum celebrates five consecutive years as a Top Green Fleet (2020 – 24) and eleven awards overall.

HUDSON, IL—Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine (HDT) has named Nussbaum Transportation a 2024 Top Green Fleet. This year marks Nussbaum’s fifth consecutive award (2020-24) and eleventh overall.
Editors at Heavy Duty Trucking selected 15 fleets that are “leading the industry in sustainability.” They “specifically focused on recent sustainability initiatives and progress,” considering factors such as:
- Industry-leading fuel economy
- Adoption of alternative fuels and powertrains
- Freight-efficiency strategies
- Leading-edge “green” facilities
- Sustainability goals
- Willingness to share their experience with others
- Other “green” awards received
- Plans for the coming year
Once again, Nussbaum was recognized for industry-leading sustainability results and equipment specs:
- Fleetwide average of 9.1mpg in 2023, compared to 8.1 best-in-class and 6.6 industry average.
- Fleetwide average of 13.69% idle time in 2023, compared to 21.68% best-in-class and 33.94% industry average.
- Average savings of 1lb of CO2/mile in 2023 compared to the industry average.
- Averaged 80% “cruise control on” across our fleet in 2023. (This means that 80% of the time our trucks were in operation, they were on cruise control).
- Merlin solar panels on 87.5% of our tractors.
- Trailers outfitted with Transtex aerodynamic package.
- Testing new products such as lithium-ion APU batteries, Idle Smart Analytics, next-generation aerodynamics, new tires, and new low-ash oil to reduce truck re-gens.
- Facilities equipped with LED lighting / light timers and a robust recycling program for materials and fluids.
